Intolerance and Bigotry In Politics

The wild statements against Chick-Fil-A show that local politicians in cities such as Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and others are intolerant, anti-diversity bigots. No matter what your view on gay marriage, you cannot condone the hatefulness of the mayors of those cities. In fact, since so many Blacks also are against gay marriage, one must ask whether these mayors are also racists. In any case, I fully expect many people who share Dan Cathy’s (president of Chick-fil-A) views to boycott those cities until their citizens replace their hateful leaders with more respectable people.

But what about business people? If you want to expand your business, would you consider starting up in cities where politicians interject their own hateful religious beliefs into politics like these mayors have done? Would you go so far as to boycott attendance at trade shows that chose one of those cities to hold their shows? Or do you think it is better to ignore your own desire for tolerance and inclusion and patronize those cities even if doing so results in open support of the bigotry, intolerance, anti-diversity and racism those mayors have demonstrated?
